Ask anyone in Podgorica where to meet and the answer is a café. The city has one of the liveliest café cultures in the region, and a coffee here is never just a coffee.
The café streets
In the centre, Njegoševa, Hercegovačka and the little Bokeška are lined with terraces from end to end. The scene changes through the day: coffee and newspapers in the morning, long lunches, and in the evening the same tables fill with drinks.
How to order
Espresso, macchiato and cappuccino rule, and the macchiato is the local favourite. Many places now serve specialty coffee too. Nobody rushes you: a single coffee can buy you an hour at the table.
A coffee in Podgorica can easily last two hours, and nobody will hurry you.
City Kvart
West of the Morača, City Kvart is the newer district of glass offices and apartments, and its streets have their own lively mix of cafés, brunch places and bars.
Summer evenings
Podgorica summers are hot, so life moves outdoors after dark, and the café streets are at their liveliest late in the evening.
Our advice: take a morning macchiato on Njegoševa, explore the brunch places of City Kvart, and come back to the centre after dark in summer, when the terraces are full.
