About Podgorica after dark: the back story
Podgorica is a small capital with a big appetite for going out. Evenings begin late, on the terraces of the centre, and on weekends the bars and clubs stay busy well past midnight.
Bokeška and the centre
The heart of the night is the few blocks around Bokeška and Njegoševa, in the centre near Independence Square: café-bars, cocktail bars and literary bars side by side, with tables spilling onto the street from spring to autumn.
Clubs
For dancing, Biro plays house and techno in an old house with a garden, Kolektor brings heavy techno to a former textile factory, and District Club has guest DJs and themed nights.
On a warm night, Bokeška street is one long terrace, and the whole city seems to be out.
Live music
Ethno Jazz Club Sejdefa is an intimate room for Balkan jazz, blues and soul near the National Theatre, and several pubs have live rock covers on weeknights.
Our advice: go out late, after 22:00, and dress smart-casual for the clubs. Smoking indoors is still common in some places, so ask for a terrace if it bothers you. Taxis are cheap; use a radio taxi or an app rather than hailing one late at night.
