The Belgrade–Bar railway, opened in 1976, crosses the mountains on hundreds of bridges and tunnels, including the Mala Rijeka viaduct, about 200 metres above the valley. In the 2026 timetable the overnight train leaves Podgorica in the evening and reaches Belgrade around 7 the next morning, with couchettes and sleepers; in summer a day train also runs. Check times with the railways before you travel. In Belgrade, see our sister guide, the ULTIMATE Belgrade City Guide.
