Kuslev’s House
Early-20th-century Balkan house
About Kuslev’s House
Dr Hristo (Risto) Kuslev, born in 1883 in Kukush, came to work in Montenegro as a dentist after finishing his studies in 1908, and in the 1920s built this house with his surgery on the right bank of the Ribnica. With its many windows, doors, staircases and terraces, it is one of the few buildings in Podgorica with authentic early-20th-century Balkan architecture, and one of the few to survive the bombing of 1944. It belongs to the City Museum, and the exhibition “Kuslev’s House – a Journey Through Time” follows his life. Our advice: it also hosts readings and launches, so check the city’s cultural programme.
