Starodoganjska Mosque (Skender Čauš)
Late 15th century
About Starodoganjska Mosque (Skender Čauš)
According to Turkish sources, Skender Čauš built this mosque, with a tekke nearby, at the end of the 15th century; apart from the mosque inside the fortress, it was the only one in town until 1582. When the endowment declined, local merchants kept it up, which gave it its name, the Starodoganjska. It came through the bombing of 1943 with only minor damage. Our advice: combine it with the Clock Tower and the Osmanagić Mosque on one short walk.
