The Old Hamam & Karver bookshop

Ottoman bathhouse·Stara Varoš

A bookshop under a dome

About The Old Hamam & Karver bookshop

The old hamam was built in the Oriental style in the Ottoman period: two storeys on two foundations, under three domes and flat roofs. It became the town’s public bath, “Banja”, celebrated by the newspapers in 1926, and only the middle dome survives. Today it houses the Karver bookshop, which holds readings and literary events. Our advice: step inside to browse and look up at the dome.
