About Piva Monastery & Piva Lake

The Piva Monastery, from the 16th century, is in the tourist board’s words Montenegro’s largest picture gallery: it was moved stone by stone, with all 1,250 m² of its frescoes, to its present site. Nearby, Piva Lake fills the canyon with turquoise water, and boat trips and kayaks set off from Plužine. Our advice: combine it with a drive through the Piva canyon tunnels.

Why it's on our list

  • 16th century
  • 1,250 m² of frescoes
  • Lake cruises
