Mamula Island
A fort on an islet
About Mamula Island
Mamula is a round islet about 200 metres across at the mouth of the Bay of Kotor, crowned by a fort built by the Austro-Hungarians in the 1850s. The fort also served as an internment camp in the Second World War. After a long restoration it has become a hotel, now under the Banyan Tree brand. It is reached by boat.
Why it's on our list
- A restored 19th-century fort
