Ulcinj’s old town sits on a headland above the sea at the southern end of the Montenegrin coast. In the national tourist board’s telling, it became a pirate base from 1571, its churches turned into mosques and its square into a slave market, and its most famous captive is said to have been Miguel de Cervantes. Our advice: come for sunset and dinner on a terrace inside the walls.
